Exceeds 1,000 million the number of mobile users in China

Chinese citizens increasingly use cell phones as their primary communication tool, according to statistics released Friday by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

In the first quarter, the number of mobile users in China increased by 32.57 million to 1,020 million, said the portfolio.

Of this total, the number of subscribers to third generation services (3G) expanded by 23.64 million to reach 152.06 million during that period.

Meanwhile, fixed-line subscribers fell 1.08 million.

Also in the first quarter, the business income of the telecommunications industry grew by 10.2 percent over the same period last year to 250,500 million yuan (39,760 million). This annual increase was 0.8 percentage points higher than in the first three months of 2011.

Between January and March, prices of the services sector recorded a fall of 6.1 percent, with fixed line and cellular reduced by 4.6 and 6.4 percent respectively.
